crochet 101 :: single crochet part II

Crochet 101 is a series of crochet tutorials where I will teach you how to complete the basic stitches needed to crochet.

Hi :)

How has your practicing been going? Good I hope!

Yesterday we learned how to make the single crochet stitch.

Today's lesson is:

Now that we know how to make a row of single crochet, what is the next step? I will show you today in this tutorial.
Let's get started!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You will need:
*Yarn
*Hook
In this post, I show you where to look for what type of hook you will need for your yarn.
Step 1:
Start with your first row of single crochet stitches (like in the previous post).
For this tutorial, I have made 10 single crochet stitches.
Step 2:
Yarn over your hook.
Step 3:
 Pull the yarn through the loop.
 You have made your chain 1 turning chain.
Step 4:
Turn your work so that you are now looking at the back side of row 1 .
 Turn your work towards you so you can see the top loops of the stitches. We will be working our first stitch into the second chain from the hook (marked in the picture above with the white number 2 and the purple circle).
Step 5:
 Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook.
Step 6:
 Yarn over.
Step 7:
 Pull the yarn through the loop.
 There are 2 loops on the hook now.
Step 8:
 Yarn over.
Step 9:
 Pull the yarn through both loops on the hook.
You have just completed your first single crochet stitch of row 2.
Step 10:
Repeat steps 5-9 until you get to the end of the row and you will have completed your second row of single crochet stitches.
The picture above shows what 4 rows of single crochets looks like. (So you would repeat steps 2-10 two more times for your practice swatch to look like the picture above.)
Below is a video I made to show these steps in action. I have slowed the video down so that every step is seen. I have also added music to the video because I filmed this video with my phone and I have no idea how to mute the background while recording. Feel free to mute if piano is not your thing lol
Enjoy!
I hope you have fun practicing this stitch :)
We will pick back up with the Crochet 101 series next Tuesday where we will be learning how to do the half double crochet!
Come back tomorrow for a regularly scheduled post... See you then, friend!
crochet 101 :: single crochet
Crochet 101 is a series of crochet tutorials where I will teach you how to complete the basic stitches needed to crochet.
Hi :)
Welcome back to another Crochet 101!
We now know how to:
• Make a slip knot
Chain stitch
and
Slip stitch (part II)
Let's move on to lesson 5:
Most crochet patterns incorporate the single crochet. It is one of the easiest stitches to master. Once you have learned this stitch, you can use it on its own, or along with other stitches to create a beautiful piece.
Let's get started!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You will need:
*Yarn
*Hook

In this post, I show you where to look for what type of hook you will need for your yarn.

Step 1:
Make a slip knot.

Step 2:
Make a starting chain.

For this tutorial, we will be making a row of 10 single crochet stitches, so you will need a starting chain of 11. (10 chains will be for the stitches and the extra 1 chain will be for the turning chain.) We will be working our first stitch in the second chain from the hook. (Pictured above in the purple circle.)

Step 3:

Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook and yarn over.

Step 4:

Pull the yarn through the loop.

There are now 2 loops on your hook.

Step 5:
Yarn over.

Step 6:

Pull the yarn through both loops on the hook.

Your first single crochet is complete.

Again...
Insert your hook into the next stitch and yarn over.

Pull the yarn through.

There are now 2 loops on your hook.

Yarn over.

Pull the yarn through both loops on the hook.

There are now 2 completed single crochets.

Repeat steps 3-6 until you get to the end of the row.
This is what it should look like when you get to the end of your first row of single crochet. There should be 10 single crochet stitches.

Below is a video I made to show these steps in action. I have slowed the video down so that every step is seen. I have also added music to the video because I filmed this video with my phone and I have no idea how to mute the background while recording. Feel free to mute if piano is not your thing lol
Enjoy!

Seems easy enough right? :)

Thanks for stopping by, keep practicing, and I will see you tomorrow for our next lesson!

progress :: vol 4

Hi :)

Happy Monday friend!

How was your weekend? Do anything exciting?

I mostly worked on my pile of WIPs:

Remember John's beanie?
Well there was some of this going on this weekend:
It was a little bigger than I wanted... I pulled out 10 rows! :(
...but I finished it!!
 *phew*

I also finished another beanie I was working on for my cousin Danica (John's wife). I originally posted the beginnings of this beanie on Instagram:
...and here it is finished:
 I love the color of this beanie! The pattern is amazing also... nice and quick and looks great when it's finished.

Besides crocheting, I also read some more Harry Potter:
I'm on page 101 of 341 in book number 2 (Chamber of Secrets). Still a long way to go, but I can't wait to get through them all!!

Did anyone go to the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco this weekend?

I wanted to go so badly :'( I've been checking their Instagram feed and seeing all the amazing things that the sellers are selling... Gah! I would've loved to be there to see it all in person! I guess I'll have to wait until December to go... I already marked my calendar so now all I have to do is make sure I save up so I can grab some goodies!! I'll go alone if I have to! Lol

See you tomorrow for another Crochet 101 lesson!!
(We're learning the single crochet stitch this week!!)
